Radiance clear ceramic braces at Clarendon Dental Spa in Leeds

Clear Braces in Leeds

Discreet fixed ceramic braces for adults

  • Radiance clear ceramic braces work like traditional braces but use tooth-coloured brackets, making treatment far less visible for adults. Treatment typically takes 12–24 months depending on how much movement your teeth need.

  • Clear braces use ceramic (or sometimes porcelain) brackets that match your tooth colour, bonded to the front of your teeth and connected by an archwire. The wire is adjusted and replaced over time to guide your teeth into better positions, and tooth-coloured wires keep the system even more subtle. They work the same way traditional metal braces do — the difference is purely aesthetic.

  • Subtle, adult-friendly look

Tooth-coloured Radiance ceramic brackets and clear or tooth-coloured wires blend with your teeth, so they are far less noticeable than traditional metal braces — ideal for professionals and adults who want discretion.

  • Handles complex cases

Clear braces can correct the full range of orthodontic issues — severe crowding, complex rotations, overbites and underbites — so they are not limited in the way clear aligners can be.

  • Placed with precision at Clarendon

Every bracket is positioned with care, because small placement errors affect the final result. Your treatment is led by our specialist-led orthodontic team, with orthodontic wax for any early irritation, detailed hygiene guidance, 0% interest-free finance, and retainers at the end to protect your result.

Fixed metal braces for adults and teens at Clarendon Dental Spa in Leeds

Metal Braces in Leeds

Reliable fixed braces for adults and teens

  • Fixed metal braces remain one of the most reliable, effective and precise ways to straighten teeth for adults and teenagers, and are often the best choice for more complex cases. At Clarendon Dental Spa, metal braces are provided by our Specialist Orthodontist, Dr Taiyub Raja.

  • Metal braces use a system of brackets and wires that are gently adjusted over time to move your teeth into a healthier, better-aligned position. They are a traditional option, but they remain highly efficient and are often the most suitable choice for achieving comprehensive correction, from mild crowding through to complex bite issues.

  • Best for complex correction

Because they give precise, predictable control over tooth movement, metal braces handle the widest range of cases — including significant crowding and bite correction that aligners cannot always achieve.

  • Comfort and care through treatment

You'll have well-spaced appointments, orthodontic wax for any early irritation, clear hygiene guidance and close monitoring at every adjustment, so your treatment stays comfortable and on track.

  • Cared for by our orthodontic team

Your treatment is planned and delivered by our orthodontic team, so complex cases are managed with specialist expertise from start to finish.

Angel clear aligners for discreet teeth straightening at Clarendon Dental Spa in Leeds

Clear Aligners in Leeds

Discreet removable teeth straightening

  • Angel Aligners are a discreet, removable way to straighten teeth using a series of custom-made clear aligners that apply gentle, controlled pressure to move your teeth gradually into a more balanced position. Because they are removable, you can eat, drink, brush and floss as normal — a flexible option for adults and teenagers.

  • Each aligner is custom-made to fit precisely and support steady progress, with regular monitoring appointments to keep treatment on plan. Specifically want Invisalign? See our dedicated Invisalign page.

  • How Angel Aligners work

You wear each aligner for a set period before moving to the next in the series, gently shifting your teeth a fraction at a time towards their planned final position.

  • Removable and convenient

Take them out to eat and to clean your teeth — there are no food restrictions and brushing and flossing stay easy, which many adults and teens prefer to fixed braces.

  • Is it right for me?

Clear aligners are a great fit for mild to moderate straightening. For more complex cases, fixed braces may give a better result — we assess your case honestly and recommend the right option for your needs and budget.

Lingual braces fixed behind the teeth at Clarendon Dental Spa in Leeds

Lingual Braces in Leeds

Hidden braces fixed behind the teeth

  • Lingual braces are fixed to the inside surfaces of your teeth, so they straighten your smile completely out of sight. They use the same principle as standard braces, positioned where nobody can see them. Treatment is typically 12–24 months.

  • Modern lingual systems like Incognito use custom-made brackets, each one designed specifically for the tooth it sits on, for a precise fit and optimal tooth movement. Because the inner surfaces of teeth are harder to access and the brackets are smaller, lingual treatment is technically demanding — we offer it because we have the expertise to deliver it properly.

  • Truly invisible

Fitted behind your teeth, lingual braces are completely hidden from view. No one will know you are in orthodontic treatment — not colleagues, not clients, not photographs.

  • Works for complex cases

Unlike clear aligners, which have limits for severe cases, lingual braces handle the full range of orthodontic issues — including complex rotations, vertical movements and significant crowding.

  • The Clarendon lingual journey

The tongue usually takes a week or two to adapt and speech normalises quickly. Our team provides detailed guidance, wax for any irritation and responsive support throughout, with your case overseen by our specialist-led orthodontic team.

Six Month Smiles cosmetic braces at Clarendon Dental Spa in Leeds

Six Month Smiles in Leeds

Fast cosmetic straightening of front teeth

  • Six Month Smiles focuses on the teeth that show when you smile — typically the upper and lower front six to eight teeth — gently straightening them in around six months using discreet clear braces. Average treatment duration is 4–9 months.

  • Unlike comprehensive orthodontics, which addresses your bite and all of your teeth, Six Month Smiles targets the cosmetic alignment issues people actually notice. Clear brackets and tooth-coloured wires make it subtle, and the targeted approach is what delivers results in roughly half the time of traditional braces.

  • Fast, focused results

Average treatment is around six months — often as short as four months for minor cases — because it targets the teeth you actually see when smiling, not every tooth in your mouth.

  • Discreet by design

Clear ceramic brackets and tooth-coloured wires make Six Month Smiles far less visible than traditional metal braces. Most people won't notice unless you point it out.

  • Right treatment, honest advice

Six Month Smiles is brilliant for mild to moderate front-teeth alignment in adults. For severe crowding, significant bite problems or comprehensive needs, full braces or clear aligners will give a better long-term result — we always recommend the right treatment for your teeth, not the most heavily marketed. Every case includes 3D digital planning and retainers to protect your result.

Orthodontic braces for children and teenagers at Clarendon Dental Spa in Leeds

Braces for Children in Leeds

Orthodontic treatment for children and teenagers

  • We provide orthodontic treatment for children and teenagers, tailored to each stage of growth and delivered by our Specialist Orthodontist, Dr Taiyub Raja, in a calm, child-friendly setting. Not sure if it's the right time? Start with an early orthodontic assessment.

  • Every treatment plan is fully personalised following a detailed assessment. Depending on your child's needs, treatment may include functional appliances such as Twin Block appliances to guide jaw growth and improve the bite, spacers to create room where needed, or carefully judged interproximal reduction (IPR) in selected cases to allow better alignment.

  • Twin Block & functional appliances

For growing children with significant bite issues such as a pronounced overbite, functional appliances like Twin Block help guide jaw development at the right stage, often simplifying later treatment.

  • Spacers & interproximal reduction (IPR)

Spacers create the space needed between teeth before further treatment, while gentle IPR can create small amounts of space to improve alignment and achieve a more balanced result in carefully selected cases.

  • NHS vs private timing

NHS orthodontic waiting times for braces are typically around 24–36 months. Private treatment lets suitable children start sooner, with the same specialist-led care throughout.

Brace removal and debonding at Clarendon Dental Spa in Leeds

Brace Removal & Debonding in Leeds

Remove braces or fixed retainers fitted elsewhere

If you've moved to Leeds or finished treatment elsewhere, we can remove (debond) your fixed braces or fixed retainers and fit a fresh retainer to protect your result. We take a digital scan on the day — no messy impressions — so your new retainer is ready quickly.

Fixed and removable teeth retainers at Clarendon Dental Spa in Leeds

Teeth Retainers in Leeds

Keep your teeth straight after braces

  • Retainers hold your teeth in their corrected position after braces or aligners, protecting the result you have worked for. We provide fixed and removable clear retainers, and we can also make replacement retainers if you had orthodontic treatment elsewhere — including Vivera and Hawley retainers.

  • Teeth naturally tend to drift back towards their old positions after treatment, which is why retention matters for life. Every retainer is custom-made from a digital scan of your finished smile for a precise, comfortable fit.

  • Fixed vs removable retainers

A fixed retainer is a thin wire bonded discreetly behind your teeth; a removable clear retainer is worn as advised, usually at night. Many patients use both for maximum protection — we advise on what suits your case.

  • Replacements & upgrades (incl. Vivera & Hawley)

Lost, worn or damaged retainers are easily replaced, including Vivera and Hawley retainers. We take a digital scan on the day, so there are no messy impressions and your new retainer is made to fit precisely.

  • Retainers from treatment elsewhere

If you were treated at another practice, you are welcome here for replacements and repairs. Broken bonded retainers are common — see our orthodontic emergencies section for prompt help.

Emergency orthodontic care and brace repairs at Clarendon Dental Spa in Leeds

Orthodontic Emergencies in Leeds

  • Our team works quickly to carry out any necessary repairs or adjustments and to help prevent unwanted tooth movement or relapse, whether your treatment started with us or elsewhere.

  • Broken bonded retainer?

We're able to see patients for broken or damaged bonded retainers, even if they were not originally fitted at our practice.

Bring any old retainer if you have it. We can re-scan and replace lost or damaged retainers, including Vivera and Hawley retainers, to stop your teeth drifting.

FAQs

Your questions about orthodontics, answered

FAQs about Orthodontics

Will I need to wear retainers after treatment?

Yes, retainers are an important part of orthodontic care. They help keep your teeth in their new position and ensure your results remain stable long after treatment is complete.

Do braces require extra care?

Yes — maintaining excellent oral hygiene is essential during treatment. This includes careful brushing, cleaning between teeth, and avoiding foods that could damage your braces, such as very hard or sticky items.

How long does orthodontic treatment take?

Treatment time varies depending on the complexity of the case, but most patients complete treatment within one to two years. Your orthodontist will provide a clear timeframe during your consultation.

Can adults have orthodontic treatment?

Yes — healthy teeth can be moved at almost any age. Many adults choose orthodontic treatment to improve both appearance and function, although treatment may take slightly longer than for younger patients.

Do you fix brackets or wires from other dentists?

Yes — we regularly help patients with broken brackets, poking wires or lost retainers from treatment started elsewhere. If it’s a true emergency (acute pain, bleeding), we’ll prioritise you. For less urgent issues, we’ll book you in as soon as possible. If you’d like us to take over ongoing treatment entirely, we can discuss that too.

Clear Braces in Leeds

Are clear braces comfortable to wear?

You’ll feel pressure and mild tenderness for the first few days after fitting and after each adjustment — easily managed with over-the-counter painkillers. Some initial cheek or lip irritation is common (solved with orthodontic wax). Most patients adapt within 1–2 weeks and find braces very manageable for the duration of treatment.

How long does clear braces treatment take?

Typically 12–24 months depending on complexity. Mild cosmetic cases can finish in 6–9 months; comprehensive bite correction may take 18–30 months. At your consultation, we’ll give you a clear timeline based on a 3D scan and assessment of your specific case.

Do clear brackets stain?

Modern ceramic brackets don’t stain. The wires and elastic ties between brackets can pick up some staining from strongly coloured foods and drinks (coffee, turmeric, red wine), but these are changed at every adjustment appointment — so any staining disappears with each visit. Regular hygiene appointments help keep everything clean throughout.

Are clear braces as effective as metal braces?

Yes — for most orthodontic issues, clear braces deliver identical results to metal braces. The mechanics are the same; only the bracket material differs. For very severe or complex cases (especially those requiring heavy force on large back teeth), traditional metal may occasionally be preferred, but for the vast majority of adult patients, clear braces work brilliantly.

Metal Braces in Leeds

Are metal braces better than aligners for complex cases?

Often, yes. Fixed metal braces give the orthodontist precise control over each tooth, so they can handle significant crowding and bite correction that clear aligners cannot always achieve. Our Specialist Orthodontist, Dr Taiyub Raja, will advise which option suits your case.

Do metal braces hurt?

You may feel mild tightness for a day or two after fittings and adjustments, which usually eases quickly. We provide orthodontic wax for any early irritation and are always on hand if anything feels uncomfortable.

How long does treatment with metal braces take?

It depends on your case, but most adults and teenagers complete treatment within 12–24 months. You'll get a personalised estimate at your assessment.

Clear Aligners in Leeds

What is the difference between Angel Aligners and Invisalign?

Both are clear, removable aligner systems built on similar technology. Invisalign has the largest track record; well-chosen alternatives like Angel Aligners can be a more cost-effective option for straightforward cases. If you specifically want Invisalign, see our dedicated Invisalign page.

How many hours a day do I need to wear clear aligners?

For predictable results, aligners are usually worn 20–22 hours a day and only removed to eat, drink anything other than water, and clean your teeth.

Are clear aligners suitable for complex cases?

Clear aligners work best for mild to moderate straightening. For more complex movements or bite correction, fixed braces may give a better result — we assess your case honestly and recommend the right option.

Lingual Braces in Leeds

Who are lingual braces best suited for?

Adults who need comprehensive orthodontic treatment but cannot have any visible braces — performers, actors, broadcasters, public-facing professionals, brides and grooms, and anyone who prioritises complete discretion above all else. They’re also ideal for patients whose case is too complex for Invisalign but who don’t want traditional visible braces.

Are lingual braces more uncomfortable than traditional braces?

The initial adjustment period is a little different — you may experience more tongue irritation than cheek/lip irritation (where traditional brackets sit). This usually settles within 2 weeks. We provide orthodontic wax and detailed guidance to manage comfort during adaptation. Once accustomed, most patients find them comfortable for the duration of treatment.

Do lingual braces affect speech?

Yes, initially — for about 1–2 weeks. You may notice a slight lisp or feel your tongue catching on the brackets. This resolves as your tongue adapts to the new structure. Most patients find their speech is entirely normal within 2 weeks. Reading aloud at home in the first few days accelerates adaptation.

Are lingual braces visible at all?

No — when fitted by someone skilled, they’re completely invisible from any normal viewing angle. Unless someone looks directly at the inside of your teeth (which is rare), they won’t know the braces are there. Even in close-up photos, your smile appears completely natural.

Six Month Smiles in Leeds

Will I need to wear retainers afterwards?

Yes — always. Teeth naturally want to drift after any orthodontic treatment, so retainers are essential to maintain your new smile long-term. We fit fixed retainers behind your front teeth (invisible from the front) and provide removable retainers for nighttime use. Consistent retainer wear is what protects your investment.

Does 6 Months Smiles hurt?

Some tenderness and pressure is normal for the first few days after bracket placement and after each adjustment appointment — usually manageable with over-the-counter painkillers. Cheek or lip irritation can occur initially and is helped by the orthodontic wax we provide. Most patients adapt quickly and find it comfortable within a week or two of starting.

Who is 6 Months Smiles suitable for?

Adults with mild to moderate front-teeth crowding, spacing or alignment issues who primarily want a cosmetic improvement. It’s not suitable for severe malocclusion, significant bite problems, or patients needing comprehensive orthodontic correction. At your consultation, we’ll assess whether 6 Months Smiles is the best option or whether another system (Invisalign, full braces) would be better.

How is 6 Months Smiles different from traditional braces?

6 Months Smiles uses the same principle as traditional braces (brackets and wires) but focuses treatment on just the visible front teeth, not the full bite. It also uses clear brackets and tooth-coloured wires for a much less noticeable appearance. Because it targets cosmetic alignment specifically, treatment is typically finished in 6 months rather than 1–2 years.

Braces for Children in Leeds

What age should my child start orthodontic treatment?

Around age 7 is a sensible time for a first orthodontic check, once enough permanent teeth have come through to spot developing issues. Treatment timing then depends on growth — you can start with an early orthodontic assessment on our children's dentistry page.

How long is the NHS wait for children's braces?

NHS orthodontic waiting times for braces are typically around 24–36 months. Private treatment lets suitable children start sooner, with the same specialist-led care throughout.

What is a Twin Block appliance?

A Twin Block is a functional appliance used for growing children with significant bite issues, such as a pronounced overbite. Worn at the right stage of development, it helps guide jaw growth and can simplify later treatment.

Teeth Retainers in Leeds

How long do I need to wear a retainer after braces?

Teeth can drift for life, so we recommend ongoing retention — typically a fixed retainer bonded behind the teeth and/or a removable retainer worn at night, long-term, to protect your result.

Can you replace a Vivera or Hawley retainer made elsewhere?

Yes. We can replace lost, worn or damaged retainers including Vivera and Hawley retainers, even if you were treated at another practice. We take a digital scan on the day for a precise fit.

What is the difference between fixed and removable retainers?

A fixed retainer is a thin wire bonded discreetly behind your teeth and works around the clock; a removable clear retainer is worn as advised, usually at night. Many patients use both for maximum protection.

Orthodontic Emergencies in Leeds

Can you fix a broken bonded retainer fitted elsewhere?

Yes. We're able to see patients for broken or damaged bonded retainers, even if they were not originally fitted at our practice.

What should I do about a poking wire or loose bracket?

A poking wire or loose bracket is uncomfortable but usually quick to fix. Contact us and we'll arrange to relieve the problem and keep your treatment on track; orthodontic wax can help in the meantime.

Do you offer same-day orthodontic emergency appointments?

Same-day or urgent appointments may be available depending on the situation. Get in touch and we'll do our best to see you promptly and prevent any unwanted tooth movement.
