Full dentures are removable prosthetic replacements sitting on top of your gums — affordable, non-invasive, good for most patients. Full arch implants (like All-on-4) replace all teeth with a fixed bridge supported by implants — more expensive, requires surgery, but delivers results much closer to natural teeth (fixed, no slipping, normal eating). Implant-retained dentures are a middle ground: removable dentures anchored to 2–4 implants for extra stability. We’ll talk through all options at your consultation.

Not when properly made. Modern denture teeth come in a wide range of shapes, shades and sizes. Shade is matched to your skin tone and age. Subtle imperfections and slight variations in tooth position make the final result look natural. Most people can’t tell well-made full dentures from real teeth. We’ll show you the wax try-in before final processing, so you can approve the look entirely.

Well-made dentures typically last 5–10 years, sometimes longer. Over this time, your gums and jawbone naturally shrink (especially in the first year after tooth loss), so relining or replacement may be needed to maintain good fit. Regular check-ups allow us to monitor fit and replace or reline as needed. Implant-retained dentures tend to last longer because implants prevent bone loss.

For most foods, yes — with practice. Soft foods from day one. Medium-texture foods within 1–2 weeks as you adapt. Harder foods (apples, steak) within a few weeks for most patients. Very hard or sticky foods (caramels, hard nuts) can remain challenging. Implant-retained lower dentures dramatically improve what you can eat. Most patients return to 80–95% of their previous eating ability.

Typically 5–10 years with proper care. Factors affecting longevity include material (metal lasts longest, acrylic shortest), how well you care for it, changes in your remaining teeth (fillings, further loss, gum disease), and changes in your jaw shape. Regular check-ups monitor fit and condition, with adjustments, relines or replacements made as needed.

Partials are most affordable and work around existing teeth without modification. Bridges are fixed (can’t be removed), look more natural, but require drilling down neighbouring teeth. Implants are the gold standard — fixed, functional like real teeth, preserve bone — but most expensive and require surgery. At your consultation, we’ll discuss all options and help you choose what’s right for your situation, budget and priorities.

Remove it at least once daily for cleaning — use a soft brush and denture cleaner (not regular toothpaste, which is too abrasive). Rinse after eating to clear food from around clasps. Leave it out overnight to let your gums rest, soaking in water or denture solution. Maintain excellent care of your remaining natural teeth — they’re now more vulnerable to decay around where the denture sits. Regular hygiene appointments are essential.

With proper planning, rarely noticeable. Modern partials hide clasps on less visible teeth wherever possible. Flexible nylon partials have tooth-coloured clasps that are virtually invisible. Metal framework partials use thin, strategically-placed clasps. For front-teeth replacement, we take particular care with shade and shape matching. Most people won’t notice unless told.
