White Fillings

Invisible fillings for a confident, natural smile

Old silver-amalgam fillings show every time you laugh. White composite fillings don’t. If you’re tired of seeing dark flashes in your smile, upgrading to tooth-coloured white fillings is one of the simplest, most transformative cosmetic treatments we offer. Bonded directly to the tooth, colour-matched to your enamel, and virtually invisible when smiling — cosmetic white fillings restore your smile’s confidence without anyone noticing the work.

Beyond aesthetics, modern composite fillings protect your tooth better than old metal ones — bonding to the tooth structure and preserving more natural enamel. Mercury-free. Durable. Looks completely natural. At Clarendons, we replace old metal fillings and place new cosmetic fillings with precision and care.

What are cosmetic white fillings?

Invisible repair. Natural confidence.

  • White fillings (also called composite or tooth-coloured fillings) use advanced resin materials bonded directly to your tooth. The composite is shaded to match your natural enamel, layered, shaped and cured with light to create a seamless, invisible repair.

  • When used cosmetically, they replace unsightly metal (amalgam) fillings or restore chipped/worn edges on front teeth. When used restoratively (on decay), they do double duty — repairing the tooth AND looking great. Mercury-free, durable and typically lasting 7–10 years with proper care.

Features and benefits

A cleaner, more natural solution

  • Truly invisible

Colour-matched to your natural enamel and bonded seamlessly. No dark spots, no metal flashes. Your smile looks completely natural — even in close-up photos.

  • Mercury-free

Modern composite fillings contain no mercury, unlike traditional silver amalgam. A healthier choice for you, and a more aesthetic one too.

  • Preserves more tooth

Composite bonds directly to your tooth — meaning less drilling than metal fillings require. More natural tooth preserved. Better long-term outcomes.

The Clarendon's Difference

Fillings that disappear into your smile

  • The difference between a good white filling and a mediocre one is all in the detail — the right shade match, the right contour, the right polish. At Clarendons, we take time to get these right. Multiple shades of composite to match subtle variations in your enamel. Careful layering to replicate natural translucency. Meticulous polishing to match the smoothness of surrounding tooth. The result is a filling you genuinely can’t see.

  • Our award-winning clinic in Leeds city centre makes replacing old metal fillings straightforward. Single-appointment treatment for most cases. Local anaesthetic keeps you comfortable; sedation available for nervous patients. Transparent pricing with flexible payment options. Whether it’s one filling or a full set of upgrades, we’ll deliver a result you’ll love showing off.

How much do white fillings cost?

Affordable aesthetics

White fillings are priced based on size — small, medium and large. Replacing old metal fillings is priced the same as placing new fillings. A full metal-to-white upgrade across multiple teeth is a significant investment but transformative aesthetically. At your consultation, we’ll provide clear, itemised pricing. Flexible payment options available for larger treatment plans.

FAQs

Still have questions about white fillings?

Can white fillings stain?

They can pick up some surface staining over time — especially if you drink lots of coffee, tea, red wine, or smoke. Modern composites are more stain-resistant than those of decades past. Regular hygiene appointments include polishing that removes most surface staining and keeps your fillings looking fresh. Deep staining is rare.

Are white fillings mercury-free?

Yes. White fillings are made from a mixture of synthetic resin and tiny ceramic particles. They contain no mercury whatsoever. This is increasingly important to patients concerned about mercury exposure from traditional amalgam fillings.

Do white fillings last as long as metal ones?

Close. Modern composite fillings typically last 7–10 years, versus 10–15+ for metal amalgam. However, composite bonds directly to the tooth (strengthening it), doesn’t corrode, looks natural, and is mercury-free. Most patients and dentists now consider composite the better long-term choice despite the slightly shorter lifespan. Regular check-ups catch any issues early.

Should I replace my old silver fillings with white ones?

From a purely aesthetic perspective, absolutely — tooth-coloured fillings are far more attractive. From a dental perspective, old amalgam fillings that are still sound and sealing well don’t need urgent replacement. However, if they’re old, cracked or starting to leak, replacement makes sense both cosmetically and clinically. We’ll assess your specific fillings and recommend what’s genuinely needed.
