Tooth Extractions

Remove it right. Recover faster.

Sometimes a tooth has to come out — severe decay, a broken root, advanced gum disease, or an impacted wisdom tooth causing pain and crowding. When extraction is the right answer, how it’s done matters enormously. At Clarendons, our dentists and oral surgeons carry out extractions with precision, care and minimal trauma — so you recover faster and more comfortably.

Nervous about the procedure? You’re not alone, and we’ve got you. Local anaesthetic means you won’t feel pain during treatment, and sedation is available for anxious patients who need extra support. Our award-winning clinic in Leeds city centre keeps every step calm and considered — before, during and after.

When do you need a tooth extraction?

Removal, done right

  • Extractions are carried out when a tooth can’t be saved or is causing more problems than it’s worth. Common reasons include severe decay or damage beyond repair, advanced gum disease loosening the tooth, a failed root canal, orthodontic treatment needing space, or wisdom teeth that are impacted, infected or causing pain.

  • Simple extractions remove visible teeth with forceps; surgical extractions are needed for impacted or broken teeth and involve a small incision. Both are routine and carried out under local anaesthetic.

The Clarendon's Difference

Extractions done kindly — and properly

  • Extractions have a reputation for being painful and traumatic. In skilled hands, they really don’t need to be. Our dentists take the time to plan every extraction carefully — using 3D imaging where needed for complex wisdom teeth, and gentle techniques that preserve bone for any future implant or bridge work. We explain every step before it happens, so nothing catches you off guard.

  • Our award-winning clinic in Leeds city centre is designed to make difficult appointments feel manageable. Calming treatment rooms. Sedation options for nervous patients. Friendly team who check in after the procedure to make sure you’re recovering well. Small details that make a genuine difference when you’re having a tooth out.

How much does a tooth extraction cost?

Clear pricing. Nothing hidden.

Simple extractions are priced modestly; surgical extractions and wisdom tooth removals cost more due to their complexity. The addition of sedation or 3D imaging (for complex cases) is priced separately. At your consultation, we’ll give you a clear, itemised quote before anything goes ahead. Interest-free finance is available for more complex treatments.

FAQs

Still have questions about extractions & wisdom teeth?

What happens after a tooth is removed?

Depending on the tooth and your preferences, we can discuss replacement options — dental implants, bridges or dentures — to restore your bite and smile. Back teeth (like wisdom teeth) usually don’t need replacing. Front or visible teeth often do. We’ll talk through options and timing at your appointment.

Do all wisdom teeth need to come out?

No. Wisdom teeth that erupt properly, don’t cause pain and can be kept clean are usually left alone. Removal is recommended when they’re impacted, infected, causing crowding, decay or repeated gum problems. At your consultation, we’ll take 3D imaging to assess your wisdom teeth and recommend the right course of action.

How long does recovery take?

Most patients feel largely back to normal within 2–3 days. Mild soreness can last up to a week. Full healing of the socket takes 1–2 weeks, and bone remodelling continues for months. We’ll give you specific aftercare instructions based on your procedure — including avoiding smoking, alcohol and hot food for the first 24 hours.

Does tooth extraction hurt?

Not during the procedure. Local anaesthetic numbs the area completely, so you’ll feel pressure but no pain. Some soreness and swelling for a few days afterwards is normal and easily managed with over-the-counter painkillers. Most patients say it’s far less unpleasant than they expected.
